My Dear CD.A Sisters,

Easter is just around the Corner. Many of us will be coloring Easter eggs with our children and grand children, we will be planning for Easter egg hunts and other traditional family activities. Let us not forget the real reason we celebrate Easter. 'We have all had time to reflect and prepare ourselves for the Resurrection of our Savior. I know I do not need to remind any of you, but we should all have prepared for the Resurrection by Fasting, giving alms, and attending Reconciliation services offered in your parishes. Many of you will be attending the Easter Vigil Masses, with your families, and hopefully you can all share in the Holy sacrifice of the Easter .Mass.

Between, preparations for Easter, the State Board has had four Convention-Planning meetings, the last held on Tuesday March 24 in Tucson. Host courts are busy getting items for Convention Goodie Bags, making Table Decorations, creating a pool of ladies to work on registration. If your court has not been asked to help, were not done yet, so you may be tapped for assistance. We welcome anyone who wishes to volunteer to help. Gloria Ancona is busy preparing the Convention Booklet. You are urged to get your ads to her by .April 15, 2009.

We (the State Board) are excited about the Convention. Convention Committees have been selected and we look forward to working with Kay Kerwin - Yuma, Election Committee Chair, Joan Cosson - Sun City West, Credential Committee Chair, Janice Swiebocki - Phoenix, CDA of the Year Committee Chair, Delicia Reynolds, State Raffle Chair, Mari Parra - Nogales, Silent Auction Committee Chair, Pat Bailon - Winslow, Scrapbook Committee Chair, Betty Grogan, Newsletter Chair. We are excited about Our Saturday, night Banquet Keynote Speaker, Msgr. Gerald Walsh, Past National Chaplain who is such an inspirational speaker. Most of all we look forward to seeing all of you who will be attending the convention to share ideas, and to renew old and long lasting friendships.

My wish for you all, is that you have a Glorious and Holy Easter, shared with Family and Friends. God Bless you All.
Delma
My dear Catholic Daughters,

I pray this Lenten season has been one of fruit and blessings. In fact, I pray to God that, now, in the Easter season we may continue to bear fruit in abundance and gain much treasure in heaven when our time has come to join the Angels and Saints adoring God!

Yes, we are called to charity during lent. We are called to help others in need; to clothe the naked, care for the sick, care for and love the child most in need. Yes, lent is a time to bear fruit in abundance. Yet, I like to think of lent as a time of preparation for the rest of the year

During this time of Easier and during the rest of the year, we must give of ourselves as we have done during lent To give of ourselves, as our Lord has done on the cross, is also to glory in our Lord's resurrection! Why not labor during this life since this life is but a blink of an eye and be in Glory for all of
eternity?

Easter, yes, is a celebration of our Lord's resurrection, but it is also a remembrance of Hope; a hope we have yet to reach!

Let. us continue to walk in exile, but not be cast down rather be full of hope and joy that our Lord Jesus has given us through His resurrection!

We must continue to walk bearing fruit with every step we take, that we may leave a trail for others to follow and one day reach heaven full of love!

Glory in the Resurrection,

Fr. Abran Tadeo

The State Convention, to be held at Dobson Ranch on May 15-17, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona will be here before we know it. The State Board has been working very hard to plan a very exciting and motivating convention for the Catholic Daughters of Arizona.

It is with great pleasure that I will be able to attend the convention and look forward to renewing friendships. I would encourage every court to have representation at the convention, and be a part of the decisions made through the voting process that is so vital to the future of Catholic Daughters. Any member of your court may attend and have the opportunity to see and hear of the wonderful projects and contributions the courts in Arizona are involved in. Another important part of the convention is to have a lot of fun and renewing friendships.

I would like to remind all officers that the proper wearing of your robes is essential. Please make certain that they are Worn appropriately by having them hemmed 11" from the floor and pressed to eliminate the wrinkles. We want every officer to be able to participate in the procession into Mass. Wearing robes correctly demonstrates the pride and respect we have for our organization.

Has your court been actively recruiting new members? What better way to kick off the new year than by hosting a membership drive or open house in your parish. New members bring fresh ideas and new; perspectives that can keep your court active and increase the life of the membership. We all know that the best way to recruit a new member is by just asking them to join. Let's not wait any longer; someone is out there waiting for your call.

The Lenten Season is here. As always it gives us all the opportunity to grow in our love for God and to review the priorities in our life. When we review our life, if we find it cluttered and overcrowded with worldly concerns, we must reevaluate our priorities assuring that God and His teachings remain first in our lives. Making time for prayer, performing deeds of kindness and fasting are Lenten practices which cultivate a closer relationship with God. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas have done a wonderful job of sharing the good news of Jesus and inviting others to know, love and serve Him in the Church.

Wishing you a blessed Lenten Season and a glorious Easter Sunday!

The following article appeared in the February 2009 issue of The Fatima Crusader: by John Vennari
Vatican Newspaper says: Pope Will no Longer Give Communion in the Hand

When speaking of the much-needed restoration of our Church out of today's post-Vatican II chaos, a wise Archbishop remarked "Our future is in our past". In other words, to reclaim our Catholic Equilibrium at a time of diabolic disorientation, the future of the Church lies in reclaiming the solid teachings and practices of the past. The doctrinal, moral, and liturgical practices of the past that had legitimately developed over the course of the centuries, suffered severe rupture due to Vatican II and the so-called reforms after Vatican II. An ecumenism always condemned by the Church became common practice; a modernist teaching that claims Christ should not reign over governments and social institutions became widely accepted; a new Protestantized liturgy was foisted upon the faithful. One of the most striking aspect of the liturgical revolution is the practice of Communion in the hand. The Family Crusader, repeatedly cried out against this sacrilege. Now, two recent news items from Rome indicate what may be a modest beginning in curbing this abuse. Early in 2008 the Vatican's Archbishop Ranjith wrote the Foreword to a book in which he calls for a reassessment of the practice of Communion in the hand and the standing for Holy Communion. Late in the Spring of 2008 the Vatican let be known that all those who receive Communion from Pope Benedict XVI at his Papal Masses will have to receive kneeling and on the tongue. Archbishop Ranjith -Around January, 2008 Libreria Editrice Vaticana (the official publisher of the Vatican) published the book Dom nus Est by Bishop Athabasius Schneider, in which the Bishop analyzes the question of Communion received kneeling and on the tongue. Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith, Secretary to the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship, wrote the book's forward. Archbishop Ranjith open his introduction noting that all throughout Scripture, both the in the Old Testament and the New, kneeling is the proper attitude of those in the presence of Divinity. He gives examples of Solomon, St. Peter and St. John the Evangelist in the Apocalypse. Archbishop Ranjith then makes the direct application "Even in the Church, the deep conviction that the Eucharistic species the Lord is truly and really present, along with the growing practice of preserving the Holy Sacrament in tabernacles, contributed to the practice of kneeling in the attitude of humble adoration the lord in the Eucharist." He then addresses the modern abuse of Communion in the hand, it must be recognized that the practice was improperly and quickly introduced in some quarters of the Church shortly after the Council, changing the age old practice and becoming regular practice for the whole Church. "Whatever the reasons for this practice." he says we cannot ignore what is happening worldwide where this practice has been implemented. This gesture has contributed to a gradual weakening of the attitude of reverence towards the sacred Eucharistic species whereas the previous practice had better safeguarded that sense of reverence. There instead arose alarming lack of recollection and a general spirit of carelessness. We see communicants who often return to their seats as if nothing extraordinary has happened.... In many cases, one cannot discern that sense of seriousness and inner silence that must signal the presence of God in the soul". Archbishop Ranjith commends Bishop Schneider for focusing on a historical-theological consideration "clarifying how the practice of receiving Holy Communion on the tongue and kneeling has been accepted and practiced in the Church for a long period of time.

Ranjith concludes: "Now I think it is high time to review and reevaluate such good practices and, if necessary, to abandon the current practice {of Communion in the hand) that was not called for by Sacrosanctum Concilium, nor by the Fathers [ of Vatican II ], but was only accepted after its illegitimate introduction in some countries. Now, more than ever, we must help the faithful renew a deep faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharistic species in order to strengthen the life of the Church and defend it in the midst of dangerous distortions of the faith that this situation continues to cause."

The Pope's Corpus Christi Mass - On May 22 during Pope Benedict's Mass outside the Basilica of St. John Lateran, two ushers placed a kneeler in front of the altar and the chosen communicants all knelt and received on the tongue from the Pop's hand. At a June Mass in the southern Italian port city of Brindisi, the Pope again only gave communion to the faithful on the tongue while they were kneeling. Then on June 26th, the L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican's official newspaper ran an interview with Msgr. Guido Marini, the Popes new Master of Ceremonies. Msgr Marini explained that kneeling and receiving Communion on the tongue highlights "the truth of the Real Presence (of Christ) in the Eucharist, helps the devotion of the faithful and introduces the sense of mystery more easily." Pastorally speaking, he said "It is urgent to highlight and recover" these aspects of the sacredness and mystery of the Eucharist in modern times. In the L'Osservatore Roman interview, Msgr. Marini was asked if this practice was destined to become the norm in all Papal celebrations, and he replied, "I really think so". He explains the Pope's adoption of the traditional practice of distributing Communion "aims to highlight the force of the valid norm for the whole Church".

We can only hope the reports from Rome indicate true first steps being taken to curb - and eventually abolish - the practices of standing for Communion and Communion in the hand.
