The number of Delegates shall be determined by dues billed by the National Office as of November 15 of the preceding year. Court representation will be: One (1) delegate, THE REGENT IF SHE ATTENDS, and an additional delegate for each SEVENTY-FIVE (75) members or major fraction thereof. Local Courts may elect up to two (2) times the number of alternates for elected delegates. If you have a STATE officer in your court, DO NOT elect her as a delegate, as she is an automatic delegate as a State Officer. Please note: Forms for delegates and alternates to the convention have been sent to Local Court Regents ONLY. State Regents will receive delegate forms for State Officers. DO NOT include State Officers or Imm. Past Regent on local Court delegate forms as they are automatically designated as delegates of your state.
DO YOU PLAN TO RUN FOR A National office? If you are.... you must submit a statement of qualifications, a current photograph, a statement of endorsement by the State Board of the candidate, as well as consent to serve by the candidate. Seven (7) copies of the aforementioned shall be received by the Nominating Committee Chair no later than MARCH 1ST of the convention year. You are urged to refer to the Bylaws, Article XII, for additional information.
Pre and Post Convention Tours to areas of interest in Albuquerque have been planned. Pre-Convention Tours will be held on July 14 and 15.
The-post Convention Tour will be to Baja, Mexico. Arrangements have been made with ALL AMERICAN TRAVEL AGENCY to be the official CDA agency for the convention. You may contact them at 1-800-732-7075. Courts who will not be attending the National Convention, can still be a, part of the Convention, by sending messages of appreciation to those women representing your local courts, state courts and our national order of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. The convention Program Booklet will also be used as a journal Ad Book. Hand written ads WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. All MUST be photo ready.
Ct. Queen of Peace No. 2359 - Green Valley
Regent, Maureen O'Reilly/O'Shea (State Treasurer) and the ladies of her court welcome three new members this year. They are Anita Venezuela, Eleanor Pompi, and Ellen Sheehan. Ct. 2359 held their annual Rosary Sunday. Carol Neuburg, Joyce Hubacek, Audry Miller coordinated with Judy Sender the event. Following Father Maldonado's Holily, CDA members presented rosary's to all the children in attendance. Thanks to Bill O'Shea, honorary Catholic Daughter made all the rosaries. Ellie Brysacz and Joyce Hubaceck, Vice Regent , did a spectacular job putting together pamphlets given at all masses bringing attention to Pornography in Media. Ellie intensely researched the subject and included important information in the pamphlets. Judy Sender, coordinated this event for CDA and the Parish Family. Ct. 2359 had the following guest Speakers since September: State Chaplain, Fr. Abran Tadeo, Lunn Wray who spoke about RCIA program in their parish and invited the court to pray for candidates and catechumens presently in the RCIA program. Three court members, Ellen Sheehan, Joyce Hubacek and Carol Scarlise are sponsors. Five (5) court members attended the State Workshop held in Tempe on Nov. 3. They were Ellen Sheehan, Joyce Hubacek, Vice Regent, Frances Garcia, Carol Scarlise, Treasurer and Regent, (State Treasurer) Maureen O'Reilly/O'Shea. Florence Mills, Court Sunshine Chair, is busy spreading sunshine to the sick and members in need, paying special attention to our Seminarians and Commander Paul Wright, (husband of Katie Wright, Vice Regent from Ct. St. Germaine in Prescott Valley) who is stationed in Iraq. The year was rounded off with their annual Christmas Party, held at La Posada, December 6th. Much fun was had with the help of Bernie Lawrence and Trudi Cisco (auctioneers) at the auction held after lunch. In attendance were State Regent Delma Araiza, State Secretary, Marilyn Witte, District Deputies, Trudi Cisco and Delicia Reynolds and Ct. Chaplain Matt Prom.
Ct. Our Lady of Guadalupe No. 2250 - Phoenix
Regent, Mary: Ann Wanslee, and her ladies continue to do a great job with their Prison Ministry. They continue to seek donations of yarn, or funds to purchase yarn to provide inmates with yarn for crocheting. Funds are also needed to provide material for the purpose of making rosaries. Special thanks were given to the court for their efforts. Special thanks went to Charlotte, Char, Mary Ellen and Janice and her crew for their efforts at the Federal Prison Camp. The Court will have a Reception of New Members at their January 2008 meeting. Plans are also in the making for the Courts 25th Anniversary which is in May. Starting in December, their courts history will be written by guest writers. The first account will be by our "God Mother" past State Regent, Louise Bates. This should be a very interesting project. Members of the court attended the State Workshop after having gone to our 1st Saturday Adoration obligation.
Ct. Our Lady of the Desert 2164 - Mesa
Agnes Miller, Regent reports that they welcomed four new court members in October, they are: Judy Rimbey, Marie Freudinger, Elaine Hughes and Marie Blanda. Ct 2164 actively participated in All Saints, Holy Cross, and St. George ministry fair, after masses and distributed CDA materials for member recruitment. On Nov. 8th, Susan Mone, 1st State Vice Regent and Eileen Esch, State Education and Youth Chair and Agnes Miller,,Regent attended cermonies presenting $50.00 award to Manny Estrella , winner of CDA National Computer Art Contest. Fund raising project Apache Gold, has been very successful and much fun. Trips are made the second Wednesday of the month. On December 17, the court Christmas Party was held, entertainment and music by court members Edith and Genny were enjoyed by all. Program Chair Genny Leggett is busy lining up very interesting presentator's and presentations for up coming meetings.
Ct. St. Mark No. 312 - Window
Regent Pat Bailon, and the ladies from her court have been busy doing works of Charity. In November they started a Giving Tree, and over 200 gifts were donated for Christmas Gifts, which were given to people in Nursing Homes, and to persons who are homebound. They also had a Christmas Basket Raffle to raise fm Js. In addition, Pat and her ladies have welcomed 16 new members to their court. Kudos to you all for a job well done!
Ct. Padre Kino No. 1932 - Tempe
Cathy Oplaski, Regent and her court celebrated their Annual Christmas Potluck at Resurrection Church on December 5. Members provide delicious homemade specialties and desserts. The Court provided ham. At their January meeting they will discuss plans for the upcoming Court's 43rd Anniversary. Rori Levario and Ramona Kiesecker will be hostesses for the Anniversary celebration, which will be on February 6. The court is working on putting together friendship bags which will be distributed and sent off in March. Plans are being made for attending the National Convention in New Mexico in July. The court members may rent a van and drive if a sufficient numbers of ladies plan to attend. (Ed. Note: I urge you to take this opportunity to attend the national convention due to it's location. I am sure you will enjoy the convention and come home with many new things learned by presentations made at the convention.) New Newsletter Column - Editor Melanie Collinsworth, will have a new item in the Court Newsletter. She will feature the three (3) surviving Padre Kino Charter members. Her first column featured, "Catholic Daughter of the Year" Mary Robison. The piece was excellent. Great job Melanie!
Ct. Madonna No. 2067 - Sun City
Regent, Mary Yaskowitz and the members of Court 2067 have a busy schedule for the 2007-2008 calendar year. Mary is the newly elected Regent and brings much energy to her newly elected position. October featured their Annual Spaghetti Dinner, where the K of C members did the cooking, was a great success. On December 17, they will have their court Christmas activities. Plans are being made for their Fashion Show and Luncheon on February 4, Angela Genova will chair the Fashion Show. $2,510.00 was raised for the courts annual contributions to Charities, both National and Local. (Ed: I Commend you all for a job well done) Plans are now being formulated for the courts 35th Anniversary. Tentatively the date the court is considering is April 28, 2008. Ct. Madonna is contributing to the "Moses Project" which is a huge statute of the Ten Commandments, which will be placed in the Courtyard at St. Clement's Church. In December also, court members will take toys to the West Valley Food Bank in Youngtown and will visit sister members who are confined to Nursing and assisted living facilities. Prayers are asked for the souls of Alice Ladewski and Julia Chestna and Hoyt Lathan. Also pray for Pat Darling and Angela Genova who are recovering from surgery. Also, please, pray for Louise Bates, Past State Regent who recently fractured a bone in her leg and is recovering.
Ct. St. Francis of Assisi No. 2221 - Tucson
Regent Phyllis Hall, and court members celebrated their courts Christmas Potluck on December 3rd, with a cookie exchange and gift exchanges. Attending were State Regent Delma Araiza, State Secretary Marilyn Witte. The court held one of their mini Bazaar's on December 8--9, selling many hand made crafts, (which they worked on all year) and homemade food stuffs. The bazaar was a great success. Plans are being made by members to attend the "New Beginnings" retreat.
Ct. Our Lady of Fatima No. 2136 - Yuma
Regent Dee Sussman, reports on what she and the members of her court's Circle of Love activities have been to date. They have been busy! Spiritual Enhancement activities, include, A Priest Appreciation luncheon for all local priests and also sent spiritual bouquet cards to all Priests in Yuma County. (Ed Note: This is a great idea). Dressed in white they participated as a group for CDA Day, and also held a mass for deceased members in November. At the November meeting, they drew Kris Kingle names. They will emphasize prayer as gifts for those whose names they drew. At their December meeting they will reveal the names they picked. The Court continues to support a seminarian. The court purchased a much needed pall for St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Quality of Life projects include: Continue to provide layettes to three local social service organizations. At their December meeting, instead of exchanging gifts, they will contribute layette items. Education: They provide $300.00 scholarship to a Catholic Student and will be participating in CDA's National essay contest. Kay Kerwin, has done an excellent job as their Chair person for several years. Legislation: In October the court participated with other concerned groups in LIFE CHAIN for one hour along one of the busiest street in town. For WRAP week, white ribbons were distributed to parishioners after masses. Ways and Means: Raffle tickets are sold for a quilt which is made by one of their devoted members, Karen Maude. Recently they voted to sponsor a club called Little Flowers Catholic Girls Club of Yuma. This a Catholic organization for young girls interested in learning Catholic virtues through lives of Catholic Saints, Scripture and the catechism of the Catholic Church. (Ed Note: Could this lead to the formation to a junior Catholic Daughters Court, as the same virtues are practiced ??) Financially the court support the Five National Projects recommended by National.(I commend Regent Sussman for her excellent report on their courts activities to date.)
Ct. Santa Cruz No. 1341 - Nogales
Ct. Regent Mari Parra, and the members of the court have a busy schedule for the month of December. On December 8, they celebrated their 66th Anniversary, at Mr. "C's" Supper club. Two of their founding members are still able to join them on special occasions. Madeleine Van Hulse remembers that one of the first activities the court participated in, was rolling bandages to be sent to our troops after the attack on Pearl Harbor. State Regent Delma Araiza, presented Regent Parra, a plaque commemorating their 66 years of faithful acts of Charity. Attending the dinner also were State Treasurer, Maureen O'Reilly/O'Shea, her husband Bill, Past National Director, Betty Grogan, District Deputy Trudi Cisco, and Florence Mills GV member. From December 4—12, they participated in a Novena of Processions (Celebrating our Lady of Guadalupe) ending with a mass. On December the 8, they purchased floral arrangements and joined the procession with their CDA Banner. On December 9, they held their Annual Christmas Cookie Sale. Homemade cookies and munchies which are put in baskets, gaily wrapped in Christmas colored cellophane. Cookies and baskets are sold after masses. In addition members work on the Bookstore project selling Holy Books, and Gift Certificates, especially during the holiday season. On December 13, they will have their annual Christmas Dinner at Mr. "Cs" Supper Club. Christmas gifts , are brought to the dinner for Boys and Girls to be given to a ProLife Group, for their Present-give-away to needy Children. On December 17—19 they were busy decorating the Church and setting up what was needed for a Christmas Concert December 20 to benefit their Parish's much needed renewal and building restoration fund. The St. Ambrose Latin Mass Choir from Tucson, for a traditional Latin Music and Chant and Christmas Carols, with a Wine and Cheese intermission. Court members manned the refreshment tables. Busy as bees!
Ct. St. Cecilia No. 1473
Regent Peggy Boelke, and the members of their court are tentatively planning for their 60th Anniversary on March 8, 2008. Details will be passed along when a decision is made.- Regent Boelke, Darleen Phelen, Elaine Markus and Marie Eggers attended the State Workshop held at Resurrection Church.in Tempe on November 3. Members Elaine Markus, Maria Kieffer and Clara Chavez were the audit committee for the courts Semi Annual audit. A memorial mass was held for Rachel Scott at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on October 12. Several members attended the mass and reception following the service. Ct. Our Lady of Lourdes No. 2278 -. Sun City West
Regent, Ann Valencia, reports that their Spaghetti Dinner was a "sold out" success , Thanks to Co-Chairs Joan Cosson and Connie Sherrard. December 8, marked the day of the courts Cookie Walk and Bake Sale. Cookies, breads and candies were sold after Mass. The court's Advent Brunch was held on December 19, after the regular December monthly meeting. The ladies shared professional entertainment at the Brunch. On January 13, court members will attend Mass at Prince of Peace for Right to Life. On January 22, they will attend adoration in Prince of Peace Chapel, on the anniversary of Roe vs Wade, and pray for the end of aborations. On October 29, 92 Baby Quilts, 33 Receiving Blankets, 114 Baby Gowns, 21 Crocheted Baby Afghans, 5' Mattress Pads, 8 Burp Cloths, 7 Crocheted Caps, 7 pairs of Crocheted Booties, 1 Bedspread, 14 Baby Bibs, and 3 new Diaper Bags were delivered to the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Phoenix. Margaret Huelskamp and Joan Cosson spearhead the Sewing Ladies Project, they and court volunteers who diligently give of their time, love and care to make these most needed items are commended. for a job well done! (Kudos to your Ladies). The Court also donated 275 pairs of Sweat Pants (Cost of $1,706_46,) to the Pappas School Children.
Ct. St. Augustine No. 1227 - Tucson
Anita Mendoza, Regent, says her ladies have been busy:. Prior to Thanksgiving Day, 2 families received food boxes, prepared by court members with donated food stuffs, including Turkeys and many trimmings for a Thanksgiving Dinner. On December 4, the Courts Annual Christmas Luncheon was held-at the K of C Hall, withsome 75 people in attendance. Including Past National Director Betty Grogan, State Chaplain Fr. Abran Tadeo, State Regent Delma Araiza, State Treasurer, Maureen O'Reilly/O'Shea, State Secretary, Marilyn Witte, District Deputies, DeliciaReynolds, Betty Salgado, and Trudi Cisco and Court Spiritual Director, Deacon Richard Grijalva and his wife Helen. Members of the Tucson and Green Valley courts were also in attendance. Fr. Al Schifano, Diocesan Moderator of the Curia and Vicar General was featured Guest Speaker. The, Luncheon was catered by Sutters. Court Vice Regent Angela Horkey-was Luncheon Chair. Many Door Prizes and beautiful Table favors were provided to attendees. The Annual Cookie/Bake-and, Craft Sale was held on December 9, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. The, Sale was a complete success, almost ALL items were sold. The fruits of labor that the ladies did in making. the crafts was rewarding. The Court held a Fashion Show in November and Co-Chairs Delicia Reynolds and Alice Cavaletto did a great job preparing lunch for approximately 175 attendees.- Fashions by Bon Worth, were modeled by members of the, Court. Attendees were most complimentary of the Fashon Show and wanted to know if it would be an annual event. (The jury, is still out. on that.)- (Kudos to all the-ladies who made these court activities a- success)
Our Lady of the Lake Ct. 2213 - Lake Havasu
Regent Ann Cahill, and the members of her court have been doing many acts of Charity. Over the summer one of the courts projects was to provide items to the local Abused Women's Shelters. Needed household items were provided to give the women a new start. The court delivered 6 huge boxes of personal and needed household goods. Their efforts were. featured in the local newspaper the "Herald." Members also gathered 'winter' clothes for the Indian Mission in New Mexico that they support. Some 250 pounds of warm clothing, bedding and blankets were shipped to the Mission. National CDA Day was celebrated with Mass and a Brunch was held at the Islander Inn. The court participated in a community affair, by having a CDA Car in the London Bridge Day Parade. On October 28 WRAP cards and White Ribbons were distributed after all Masses. On October 31, the members provided treats from the trunks of their cars to local children. Regent Cahill attended and participated in the discussions at the State Workshop held in Tempe on November 3. It was indeed a pleasure to have her impart and share information and experiences with attendees. December 11, marked the date for their Christmas Celebration at the Islander Inn. Regent Cahill received a letter of commendation from W. R. Burk, Rear Admiral, U. S. Navy, for the participation in Operation Handclasp, with their donation of Sewing Machines for the Navy's project in Southeast Asia. St. Rose of Lima-No. 2398 - Safford
Regent Margarita Wulftange, and the ladies of her court cooked and baked 2,378 cookies for the Annual Festival of Trees celebrated annually in their Parish. In addition, they had other home baked goods, stuffed animals, and home made burros, green, bean and mixed. The festival ran from December 8—19. My contact with other ladies of the court, said they worked much and were tired by the end of the festival. But their dedication and determination allowed them to do our Lord's work. On December 5, the annual Christmas Dinner was combined with a workshop. The dinner was held at Brisks Restaurant. One of their future fundraiser's. is a planned trip to Apache Gold. Plans and discussions are being held regarding attending the National Convention in New Mexico in July 2008.
Ct. St. Monica No. 1987 - Tucson
Regent Mary Campbell, and the members of her court celebrated their Annual. Christmas Dinner at the Silver Saddle Restaurant on December 7. Members of the court presented Regent Campbell with a gift of appreciation at the Dinner. Members of Ct. St. Francis of Assisi and Ct. St. Augustine were in attendance at the dinner, as were State Regent Delma Araiza and State Secretary Marilyn Witte. Gifts were exchanged by attendees of the dinner, and Christmas favors were given. The Court annually gives the Primavera Men's homeless Shelter, stamped envelopes and Christmas cards so the men can write home, donations of warm clothing and blankets were given to Youth On Their Own, food stuffs were donated to the Community Food Bank, fundraisers are held to support Diocesan Vocations, and Donation was made to National Charity "Smile Train". Court members continue to volunteer and support Ronald McDonald House.
