From Your National Director,
Duchess Collins

The holidays are over, our decorations are put away for another year and a
new year has begun. I hope 2008 will bring each of you abundant blessings
of good health, loving family, prosperity and a closer relationship with God
  and your neighbor.
Ash Wednesday is February 6, and the beginning of Lent. It is really hard to believe it is here so soon. Lent is the season, in which Christians prepare for the feast of Easter, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. We are urged to pray, fast and give alms during Lent. Sincere prayer is at the heart of all renewal. Making time for prayer is essential in our everyday lives. Almsgiving not only includes works of mercy such as caring for the sick and the homeless, it includes a much more difficult task, which is to forgive. Lent is a time to ask God for forgiveness and it is also a time to forgive one another. All of these practices cultivate a closer relationship with God.
Now is a wonderful time to plan a Lenten Service for your February or March meetings. Check the internet for Lenten prayers and services. Perhaps you can plan for your court to attend evening mass together before the meeting and have your chaplain celebrate the mass. Prayer is the root of it all and God wants to hear from you, it's why He invented prayer.

Well, it is time to begin thinking of officer elections. The nominating committee is elected at the February meeting. The chairman will present a slate of officers to the Regent at the April meeting and you will elect new officers at your May meeting. Please consider stepping up and saying "yes" when you are called to serve. The following is a quote from a past officer of a court. "I cannot tell you how much the experience of holding an office has enriched my life. I recommend to each and every one of you to think about becoming involved. It will truly bless your life".
Regents, you have received information about the 2008 National Convention in Albuquerque, NM. I would like to encourage every court to send the number of delegates allotted by National to the convention. You will have the time of your life and will return home with a spiritual renewal and intense enthusiasm that will overflow into your court meetings. I hope to see you there.
We hope to see more entries in the State and National contests. Get your entries in before the state and national deadlines to avoid disqualification. Good luck to you all.
Til next time, keep our bishops, priests, deacons and all Catholic Daughters in your prayers. God bless you and your families.

Dear Sisters in Christ,

As we approach Lent, I pray that we are all reflecting in our lives what it is that Jesus Christ, Our Lord, is asking of us. Reflect on what he is asking of us to offer in our life focusing on Prayer and Fasting, Abstinence and penance. The words of Jesus Christ on the cross when he said, "Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit," are truly the words WE ourselves should be focusing on especially during Lent. As our soul wants to return to the Lord as our Creator. We must focus in our life how our souls are continually pulling us to return to the Lord Our God in all we say and do.
As Catholic Daughters, let us focus on this time of Lent that which Jesus Christ spoke on the cross, "Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit." As we ourselves are asked to do the same, let us focus on these words and ask the Lord for the grace in the present moment to do His will in our life. My prayer is that our loving Father will teach us to depend more and more on Him our focus of prayer in our daily life. May God Bless you and watch over you and be with you during this time of Lent.

In Him,

Fr. Abran Todao

From State Regent

February 2008

Dear Fr. Abran and Catholic Daughter Sisters:

As we commence the Lenten season, we must look at lent as a joyful season filled with opportunities to reconnect with our inner hunger to be close to God, in whom we find all happiness. Praying for the things that Jesus found to be important, such as solidarity with the poor, justice for those with no voice, puts us in closer relationship with God. Andrew McLellan wrote, "Let me weep today with the poor, With those in our great cities where the happiness of so many homes is fragile. With the poor of a hungry world, where endless labor brings no riches. Let us weep, work and pray for the day when God will wipe away every tear." Let us pray the mission rosary, where each decade is offered for a different world continent is a way to connect with our sisters and brothers around the world.

Fasting can be an opportunity to look closely at what we consume, not only in the form of food, but of material goods. Let us ask ourselves, "Who made my shoes and what kind of a wage was received?" "Why is the hamburger only 99 cents and where did the beef come from?" "Can the person who picked the beans for my coffee afford to buy themselves a cup?" Let us make an effort to learn more about how and what we consume affects our Sisters and brothers around the world.

Let one of our challenges be to answer our baptismal call. to open our hearts to the reality of suffering here and around the world. We can write out a check, but our responsibility does not end there. It requires a deep commitment to work for change on behalf of those who have no voice and power. How can we lend our time and talent in uniting ourselves to those around our towns, cities and parishes. One is by looking at the many volunteer opportunities waiting for our participation. Ladies, Jesus is depending on us. Let this Lenten season be our opportunity to do what we do best, by actively living our orders motto.

Nomination and Election of Court officers is upon us. We have so very, very many qualified women in our courts.. Assure potential nominees, that current officers seeking second terms and out going officers are committed to assist them in any way they can. There are so many creative minds who's ideas can and will enrich our courts, encourage their participation
.
Regents are urged to read and submit all data necessary for National Convention Delegates and Alternates in a timely manner. Regents received all data necessary for registration, hotel accommodations, pre and post convention tours. I would suggest that regents make copies to share with their membership. Remind your membership, that they CAN attend the convention as a member at large. We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque, NM., July 16-20, 2008. This a excellent opportunity for us to attend the convention due to its close proximity to Arizona. Urge your membership to attend.
Yours in Unity & Charity,
Delma
Let Us Pray--For Vocations ... 0 Lord, send workers for your harvest, so that the commands of your only -begotten Son may always be obeyed and his sacrifice be everywhere renewed.... Look with favor upon your family, and ever increase its numbers. Enable it to lead its sons and daughters to the holiness to which they are called and to work for the salvation of others. Through Christ our Lord..Amen.

Let Us Pray--For Priests ... Prayer for Priests, by St. Therese of Lisieux
O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter of Your Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.  Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Your Sacred Body.  Keep unsullied their lips,
daily purpled with your Precious Blood.  Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood. Let Your holy love surround them and shield them from the world's contagion.  Bless their labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen. www.prayersforpriests.com

Prayer Intentions...come in many forms. Pray them at opening or closing of meetings, have corporate communions, by your prayer ministry, and hopefully by each individual member in her daily prayers. Jesus tell us in Mathew 21:22, "Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive." Let us place our trust in Him as we lift up the following intentions:

That those who know physical and spiritual poverty will experience Gods Love and His protection this Lenten Season and always through the efforts of our members and all who know Christ. Let us never forget to include in our Prayers our Son's and Daughters serving in the Armed Forces. We pray for those who have lost loved ones, those ill and recovering, for those troubled by mental challenges

New Bcginnings Retreat

The New Beginnings Retreat hosted by Green Valley Ct. 2359, was a great success. Hosted by Vice Regent, Joyce Hubacek, (in the absence of Regent Maureen O'Reilly/O'Shea, whose mother was gravely ill in England) and a terrific group of ladies who served coffee and rolls before the retreat got started and a gourmet lunch. We commend them all for a job well done.

Attending were 70 members and their spouses from Around the State., Including members from Yuma, Sun City, Mesa, Phoenix, Tucson and Green Valley. Fr. Abran presented the court traveling the furthest to attend a gift, which Dee Sussman, Regent from Ct. 2136 accepted on behalf of the court. Gifts were also awarded to the newest members to join CDA courts, and to the members who had been members of CDA courts the longest period of time. (Ed. note: I apologize, I failed to get the names of the ladies who received the gifts for newest and longevity, but I believe the longevity gift went to 2 ladies from Sun City, one of the newest I believe was from Green Valley and I am not sure where the second was from.)

Fr. Abran's message to us all was to start 2008, by letting God be a part of our every day life, and how to achieve that goal by prayer, and by talking to and asking God to hear our difficulties and problems when we are confronted with issues. Father also touched on many other subjects which (in my case) hit home. We thank Fr. Abran for his excellent presentations.

Don't give God instructions --just report for duty.
